'Authentic' replica kit. The next level of greed and lunacy?
Man U released their away kit for next season on Wednesday.

60 quid for a 'regular' shirt and 90 quid for an 'authentic' shirt. (35 quid for 'authentic' shorts')

Fuck knows what the difference is, and why it costs 50% more. 60 quid is a total joke anyway.

Novel way to extort yet more money out of fans.

They've got to pay for Zlatan's wages. Give them a break.

Hasn't it been for a long time that the replica kit is not of the same material as what the players wear anyway? Or is this more like the difference between the England rugby 'fans' shirts and official kit?

Mate of mines wife was moaning about the cost of Arsenal shirts , when I pointed out her kids live in them and pointed out the wear per pound ratio they worked out pretty cheap.

No idea to be honest- perhaps someone who has a players' shirt and a replica one can tell a difference?

Either way it's a complete fucking swizz. 90 quid for a football shirt?

Think Chelsea announced something similar a couple of weeks ago with prices about the same.

I would imagine clubs are now doing this, making the actual player's shirt available to buy, whereas before they were selling replicas not made of the same material.

its not a swizz, you do realise you have the choice as a consumer NOT to buy a shirt of you don't want to?? especially a man utd one....

This has been the norm in America for years. No surprise its taking off here.

Re: 'Authentic' replica kit. The next level of greed and lunacy?
I have no problem with them charging £90 for an AUTHENTIC kit but if they do that the obviously inferior knock off should be about £20.

The French national team kit is the same, think it's a Nike thing not a team / club thing

Boogers

Both Chelsea and Man Utd's kits are made by Adidas, not Nike.

Got told is to do with premier league badges etc being on the so called authentic kit, but then I thought they were on the replicas?

Re: 'Authentic' replica kit. The next level of greed and lunacy?
Trev- I fully understand the difference between both (although my query which may indicate otherwise was more about what the exact difference was in terms of raw materials used and perhaps craftsmanship) but I'm just not sure why they felt the need to introduce the authentic one aside from just to make money.

I know consumers have a choice but it's just the newest example of greed. Now little Johnny is going to want the 90 quid version to keep up with all his little mates rather than the dowdy plain old 60 quid version. Yes no-one has to buy it, but plenty will feel pressured into it. Mainly probably parents who can ill afford to.

Perhaps there was demand for the authentic kit? they seem to sell well in other sports. if you can market a better product then the better product comes at an increased price.

if anyone feels pressured into buying something they dont want to or cant afford to then i suggest they have a good hard look at themselves, and also at the way they have raised their children.

is it any different to the way nike price nfl shirts? they go for £70-90. they are greedy fucking cunts

Re: 'Authentic' replica kit. The next level of greed and lunacy?
Would they do an authentic shirt in kids sizes anyway and would it still be £90? If you're big enough to wear adults sizes you're big enough to pay for it yourself.

Can you wear an authentic NFL top?
Are they not cut to take in to account the fucking great big shoulder pads and padding they wear?

Re: 'Authentic' replica kit. The next level of greed and lunacy?
Barcelona were doing this years ago. Dunno what the difference is in material.

Bit like WHU charging £40 for preferential treatment when trying to get the odd ticket.

Football is a rip off.
